🏁 New salary thresholds for 2024
At the beginning of each year, the Government updates two essential labour indicators: the minimum wage and the average monthly global salary. Published in the BOPA, these updates affect payslips, business labour costs and self-employed contributions.
This article summarises the official 2024 figures and their practical impact.
💶 Minimum wage 2024

- Hourly minimum wage: €7.94
- Monthly minimum wage (40 h/week): €1,376.27
🔎 Why is the minimum wage relevant?

- Is required for immigration permits depending on salary thresholds.
- Serves as a basis for certain social support schemes.
📊 Average salary applicable in 2024 (2023 value)
Decree 55/2024, dated 7-2-2024, sets the average monthly global salary for 2023 at €2,426.70, which becomes the reference base for all 2024 contribution rules.
🔎 Why is the average salary important?
Especially for self-employed workers:
- Minimum contribution base: 100% of the average salary.
- Used in economic and statistical analysis.
- Helps assess remuneration for company directors required to register with CASS.
